Well, I wasn't expectin’ this...I really wasn’t. I figured that these monthly AG runs would be a slow build and whatnot but last night was just...wow.
After a quick change en route to Home Away (discard denim Spidey jacket, throw on my fave Brooklyn jersey) I makes my way to the front to pass off daps and acknowledgments to the owners and Security. I gets in and I hears Ron warmin’ up the room. His set tonight was a little different for me...wasn’t hatin’ it mind you...he was just playin’ some stuff I hadn’t heard before. So, I do what I usually do at times like these: experiment thru the art of dance. Gotta admit, a few of those cuts were pretty interesting to move to. Then out of nowhere comes one of the Birf’day Boys, Sir Spiel (Josh), with his peoples, Mike and another cat whose name I don’t think I’ve gotten (he was wearin’ the “effin’ metal” shirt) ready to KickStomp themselves silly...and damned if they didn’t! They just totally took the floor by storm to the point I had to ease out of their real estate to simply look on! And they was already drinkin’ earlier, too? I was LOVIN’ it! If there was any slackin’ with movin’ bodies my Dance Crime potna GI Jeff kept the drive goin’!
It was then I noticed that quite a few folks showed up for this AG run...not only some familiar faces like Dru (who just graced the Strayboxes as only she can), Silent Frank (haven’t seen him in a hot minute) and Mz Epiphanie (who looked more than ready to rep for The Guilders) but just a lot of folks, like this was an event night. I mean, it was a really nice crowd! The podium was then turned over to The 5witch, who didn’t waste a nanosecond of what Ron set up. He came out with audio guns blazin’...SureFires like “Killing You” and a few of those Breakcore joints (please correct me on this)...I don’t know if he was tryin’ to prove somethin’ but I know one thing for sure: he made his point! It was just brutal...and Josh and company were still at it! I’m lookin’ on at the three of them in awe...I know they were blidded up (a little drunk) but they only showed slight signs of slowin’ down! They were not to be denied! The floor stayed nice and full in the meantime. I got in some floor time with Olivia Ap, Lady ‘Lynn, Lady Better Than and her friend as well as dancin’ alongside Debs, Lil Mistress, Chris Bickham, Jenn Shaw and Kitty. I was havin’ such a good time I almost missed Pavlov’s calling. Whoops! Can’t have that!
Decided to have an interlude in my Dust run so it was off to check out the soothing sounds of The ‘Solvent in The Crypt. Now I can tell that these things are read here and there ‘cause I was able to hear one of my fave Edumactionals yet again: London After Midnight’s “Kiss”. Trust me, I ain’t complainin’ (well, just a little...I still want the album version. I’m feelin’ cheated from the current one that’s bein’ played). Anyways, I’m enjoyin’ the schoolin’ that Q’s layin’ down when I see this, uh, very healthy-like pretty who looked awfully familiar. Lo and behold, it was The Goddess Gaudy, dressed in a way that was...um, she had these jeans, see, and...her hair was like...I...uh, let’s move on. Of course I had to bless her with floor time and it was all I could do not to cross that fourth wall with her (the only that will get you a dis/slap/jail time/killed)...thank goodness I didn’t have any ‘Noffs in the system! Once she left and I gathered up what was left of my wits I went back to the tunes alongside a few folks before headin’ into the Area.
It was here that a battle was goin’ down between Sol and the other Birf’day Boy, Grave of Death (Andrew), and man, this room was jumpin’ as well! Again, holdin’ center court was Josh and his peoples...still! What’s in those drinks! Rather than try to ease my way in I sat and just watched them for a while. Dammit, it’s their party..they deserve the spotlight! Once they ran themselves out for a break and the booth changed DJs I jump in on the crater they left behind and went for self alongside the likes of The CDE, Lady Better Than and her peoples, Lady ‘Lynn, Olivia and her mans Yellow John. It was just crazy fun for the next few minutes and once my hour was up, back for a quick Orangeade run, but not before I put in some work on the Straybox...Ron was blessin’ the crowd with my Detroit song and some other semi-House bangers (I forgot this was an ElectroSexxxy night!)...you know I can’t walk out on that!
Once the thirst was slaked it was back inside and just goin’ thru the rooms and simply enjoyin’ the good vibes. Got a little Strayboxin’ on with this slim pretty, dug into some more Dust tunes with my fellow Quixotees and Guilders (with Jai hookin’ me up twice, first with “Killing You” and this time with “Ewig”) while goin’ out of my way tryin’ to impress that petite pretty Lana, chilled in The Crypt and people watched for a spell (gettin’ in a quick dance with J-Knuckles), then back upstairs for one more dance with The Goddess (I’m hatin’ on her mans hard...yeah, I said it) before callin’ it a night. I gathered my goods and dapped/hugged/acknowledged my way out.
Again: I was not expectin’ this night to be as off the chain as it was! Big up to the owners and staff as always. The DJs were pretty much on point and the tunes were just ridiculous! Of course all this means nothin’ if I wasn’t surrounded by the lot of you, my fellow Quixotees and Guilders. You guys and gals just keep me goin’ til it hurts and I love you all for that.
Welp, let me recharge for the work week and I’ll see you alls possibly next Saturday. Till then, take care of yourselves and love each other, aiight?
Vynil, out!
