Dip-dip-dived over to New York to give Raz (of Sex, Blood, Rock & Roll fame) a hearty send off, AG style. Connections were off the chain this go-round so I got there literally as the Pyramid doors opened. Got downstairs and greeted The Guilders (and a cat named Andrew) who were in the back room just chillin'. Raz treated everyone to some DD goods and we all just chatted about past episodes and the changin' scene.
The coffee had me kinda froggy so I decided to get out on the floor early and dip into a Stalag set. One thing about his sets is that he rarely plays anything remotely familair for me...I think I'd get at least one joint I 'd know well...but I love it when I hear "new" tracks! I was told he has a very extensive history on these songs so for me it's like bein' in The Crypt listenin' to Cub! Anyways, I'm joined by Eric and we're doin' our thing and whatnot when this cat gets on the floor...and proceeds to breakdance! Whew! Wrong era, wrong guy, and the wrong music to do it on. His moves were poorly executed (his "windmills" and freeze poses had me and Eric dyin'!) ...it was a human train wreck. His moves were also dangerous 'cause he was takin' up so much extra space he kept clockin' our ankles and legs with his "windmills". Even funnier was some other cat came on to "challenge" him, and he was just as bad! ROFL! We gave the mens space to embarrass themselves even further and did our thing on the other side of the poles.
Soon Eric was on the sides gettin' his, er, game on with a pretty so that pretty much left me on my own for a while. A couple of folks came on and in the meantime the reins were passed on to Sol. He decided to drop a seriously House dipped set and I was lovin' it! The biggest cranium cracker was when he dropped a remixed version of "I Am Sinistar" (Housed-dipped as well)...oooh, that ish was fire! You gotta send me that one to study! I was really into the set now and I was joined by fellow Guilders, Quixotees (like Mz DS, The AnkleBreaker, and Raz) and various passerby (the Breakdancer was kinda miffed 'cause now there was no room for him to flex on the floor...thank goodness!).
Then a tap on the shoulder and it's...effin' sigh...The Shiny One. I love the way she looks in mostly anything but when she dresses in some low key plain clothes she's even more devastating. I'm hatin' on "Jet Li", folks...I ain't ashamed to say it. Anyways, The 5witch gets on and now we got a full fledged KickStomp session in the works! We got our Circle up and gave the keys to Raz to lead and guide us thru "Leitbild"...even some of the newbies got in on the goods so now the whole floor is like wilin' just like old times! It was just effin' ridiculous! Then Jai drops the X and I just had to lead on that one! Even Spaz got in on this and he just co-piloted the session lovely! Again, just bananas! He also played a couple of cuts that have seriously gotten under my skin lately. One has this beat that goes (bear with me folks) "thump-thump-thump-thump-thump-th-th-thump-thump" and the other sounds like Rage Against The Machine..."Spitfire", I think? Aw man, them plates get me amped enough to commit crimes!
Back to The Stalag again. He threw on some joints that a lot of folks wasn't feelin' too tough but like I said, there's a gem in almost every one of his sets! One piece in particular was some song that was sayin' "I'm afraid of you" or somethin' like that....I think I heard him play it before but it was really in my system this time...that cut messed up my head but good! Sire, if you're readin' this, can you do me the honor of lacin' me with a title? After a while I stepped out to make a drink run across the street.
Sol's turn again, and he wasted no time in playin' what I wanted to hear: the Chrome remix! I was a done deal after everything else Jai played! I tore thru that and anything else he threw at me, whether if I was with Eric or Mz DS or whoever...it was just a fun run! Jai gets back on and drops some more SureFires, includin' "Arsenal"...that was the cut that eneded my immortality! I tossed my shirt onto the couch and gave in to my body pains...I was very sore but very, very content!
After another drink run I sat and watched whoever was left standin' doin' their thing to a Stalag set.Got a little love from The Sweet G Herself (can she look any hotter?) and zoned in on a pretty that was dancin' with Mz DS a few minutes back. By three it was time to say my farewells. I went into the back again to pass off last daps, hugs and photo shots with Raz. More daps, hugs and kisses for The Guilders (damn, Ethel...just...damn...) and it was Paterson bound.
Raz, I hope we sent you off right! It was a pleasure KickStompin' alongside you in both New York and Jersey! Your love and passion for the music rivals my own and that's just the way I likes it! Big up to The Guilders themselves for allowin' me to roll with 'em on this night (and every other night, for that matter). You guys keep the passion strong within me as well...not only with the music, but with life itself. I will always enjoy these times and I have nothin' but the utmost respect for what y'all do, weekend after weekend.
Welp, back to the grind! See y'all next month, God and gov'ment willin'!
Vynil Out!
