I think it was about a month and change ago that Sol, The Dyzz and another friend had a house fire back in Bayonne. For some reason or other they took advantage of the situation (if you can call it that) and decided to have a benefit night for other fire victims. Only a Guilder would think of somethin' like this.
I made it to New York in pretty good time and I went downstairs to greet the fellas and ladies. I passed two of them sittin' on a chair and while I reco-knowledged one as The CDE's grrl, the other was vaguely familiar...I couldn't just place who. Anyways, after passin' off daps to the Stalag I gets in and the "backroom party" was in full swing with the imbibing fluids goin'. After a "Norm!"-like gretting and offers of breakin' my sobriety (which I declined...I'm too "young" to hang with these guys!) John says, "Hey, I brought Steph's daughter along..." Oh dayam! The Phiff's here?!? Needless to say I quickly went back out to acknowledge her properly before gettin' upstairs to warm up a bit.
The floor was pretty empty when I walked thru the curtains. I saw The Pyramidic One up on the stage (she's a DJ? I don't know) so I got out my "plumage" and began doin' my thing. For some reason I think this song by David Bowie, "Ashes To Ashes", is hauntin' me. I seem to hear it every time I walk into a room., and this counts as the fourth time. Anyways, after that and a few more choice 80's cuts I was ready to get my Dust on.
I takes to the floor while the DJ transition from Stalag to Sol was goin' on. Soon I was joined by a tatted pretty and...the bartender? After seein' her sit behind the bar every time I've been there all of a sudden she's on the floor amongst her customers...that threw me off lovely! So John is droppin' some stuff on our heads and soon we were joined by The Phiff, The CDE and his ladylove, my fellow PATHers Kevin and Bianca (who rolled in this huge suitcase...seems she was on her way to Brazil), Lady Zadra and her mans and, of course, "Alvin Ailey". A pretty good time was bein' had!
Then it was Dyzz's turn at bat (already?? damn, the DJ rotations are mad quick this time!) and he wasted no time in addin' on to what John started. He dropped a cut that's gotten under my skin since I heard The 'Solvent and Ben Funk play it at Q's (don't ask me what it was 'cause while he wrote it down for me I promptly lost it out there on the BlackReds...a DUH!) . The beat is just crazy infectious and I love the tempo it's runnin' on....just effin' proper!
Next up: The 5witch, who kept up the intensity lovely. It's been a while since I've seen John out on the floor with us and dammit it was a treat (makin' sure I was overly conscious not to bang knees with him)! By now we had a nice crowded floor and the geez I was sweatin' up a storm! Think I was upset about that? Think again! I wanted to make sure I stayed on the BlackReds until I got to hear every DJ on the roster, and Jai was the last before it was back to Stalag again. I took that time to head up and cop a energy drink and rest up while chattin' with this cat who was wearin' a striped sweater. I'd like to think that it was the God Like Product but I think I'd be wrong, so fella, if you're readin' this, help a brudda out.
Back downstairs to take in the sights of bodies groovin' to Stalag's second run. I was on the couch near the bar lookin' on when out of nowhere I got slammed back into the couch with my head bangin' the wall! Who the hell...oh dayam, it was Lady Blue!! I was just as happy to see her as I was embarrassed to be huggin' her with the wettest of shirts! We went to the back room (me, her, and The Kaotic One) to quickly chat about our lives...I say quickly 'cause Jai was playin' room monitor and was sayin' it was too many of us back there. Still, I got a little info on the haps of two of my fave Guilders and I took a seat to rest up some more. John was on again but somethin' told me to rest up 'cause I felt I was gonna need it. Good thing, too...there was an altercation of sorts and I'm more than sure that would've killed my buzz. Near the end of John's set I was amply rewarded for my patience...my X- joint ("Xfixiation") and the "Chrome" remix! Woot! It took a minute to get back into the flow of things body-wise, but got into it I did!
From there Dyzz gets back on and drops a few SureFires on us and again, another KickStomp session is in progress! It was great to not only have John and The Phiff there with us but Blue and Joe as well! It's what good times are all about! Soon I was about to make my way out after Jai's set and Blue says, "You can't leave!" But...the train...the bus...aw, the hell with it. I rarely get to see her and Joe as it is...what's one more hour gonna hurt? While we got gypped 'cause we didn't get our "Spitfire" on we more than made up for it with some She Wants Revenge. Anyways, I happen to turn to the stage and...oh dayam! Joe's on the 1 and 2's! Now I see why she wanted me to stay! Of course I'm gonna give him my all on the floor for his run! So between him and Jai tag-teamin' the players it was just an awesome run.
At one point he brought out a genre I was intro'd to a year ago by Thomas (known to most ans SemiHumanBeing): Gabber music. Ho. Ly. Crap. Me and Blue tore into the tracks lovely (with Joe jumpin' in between songs). I don't know how I even made it thru the songs...I thought I was gonna die, folks! For a hot minute Joe was seriously on my Hate List! Jesus, fella...I'm an old man, fer cryin' out loud! Anyways, I was about to call it a night and I was just about to walk out when I hear this familiar line:
"Sittin' on the corner / wastin' my life / waitin' for the bussssss!" Oh dayam! Rabbit Junkies? Now?? Sure enough, Blue was out there with that "You know you can't leave now!" look! As AARP'd as I was I just had to get in on this track! I tossed the coat, hat and bag to the side and we got our "War" on! Everyone was lookin' on like we were just crazed fools, but hey...if they knew how much we dug this song....! At one point I actually collapsed a bit from sheer exhaustion but dammit I wasn't leavin' til this song was done (probably the longest six minutes of my life)! When all was said and done, we high fived it and I collected my belongings. I passed off the daps, hugs and acknowledgements and skipped off to the trains. And to make the night end on a high note: I still caught that 4:30 bus!
Oh man, that was just so much effin' fun! Much love to The Guilders for havin' me there! Say what y'all want, I am truly blessed to be liked enough to hang with these folks. You guys did mad work! Phiff, glad to see you there as well...my love to your moms! Blue, no dis to your mans but I love you like crazy! You are and always will be part of My New York! Joe, great set, but I still hate you...hope you're okay with that! Lady Zadra, thanx for blessin' me with your presence on the floor! Truly inspiring! To The CDE and his ladylove, my thanx for bringin' a piece of Q's with you to The Guild! Oh and much respect to that bartender...eee-yow!
Aiight, I's done...back to daddy duties!
Til next month....Vynil Out!!
