With Friday's run bein' a personal disaster at best I knew I had to step my game up lest I'd be mired in this rut indefinitely. I figured there was one place I could go to get that "cure" I was seriously feinin' for: New York.
The connections were just incredibly good and I got to The Pyramid in record time. After passin' off daps to The Guilders standin' outside it was off to the lower levels (the main floor wasn't ready at its usual time). Greeted a few more Guilders and took to the BlackReds straightaway while Sol played the tracks. For a few minutes I wasn't gettin' on like I thought (or as quick as I wanted to) but then I started to feel that familiar vibe...the one where no matter what was played I was gonna dance to it...and I began to feel a little better. Did my thing solo at some points, other times it was alongside The PATHers, Zadra, and a couple of other folks (with an occasional appearance from Jai)...feelin' real good about everything now. Then The Stalag got on and did his thing and it was goin' good as well til he hit a technical glitch. I took that time to scoot upstairs to keep the feel of things goin'.
Upstairs I got a piece of real estate near the stage/DJ podium..right in front of the Skull Worshipper! I guess this cat is a Pyramid regular along with Mr. Oil Sheen (a guy with a kerchief knotted on his head and always takes off his shirt/vest revealin' a sheen like body...I know what this sounds like but I swear I'm not makin' this up). It took me off for a hot minute, but only for a minute...I was back in my mental and it was all good (of course dancin' near The Pyramidic One didn't hurt either...wink, nudge). After three, four songs it was back downstairs to partake in the rest of Stalag's set and it was pretty much gravy from there.
Then Jai gets one and after two so-so cuts he brought out The SureFires and I was more than happy to lose my mind on 'em! The floor got fairly full of Gulders and MainFloorers (funny watchin' 'em tryin' to relate to AG songs...they remind me of how I was when I first got into it). The BlackReds were pummeled into submission by the end of his set. John took the audio baton from there and kept up the onslaught with more bangers...it was on, folks! At one point I decided to take a quick breather since I didn't want to peter out so I took a squat while John played the more club ready cuts...and promptly dozed off for like a few minutes!
I shook myself out of my power nap to see that Stalag was back on and people, he was bringin' it harder than I've ever heard him...seriously! I was like, "Oh sh-!" I got back on the floor quickly before I missed his set. If he was mad about somethin' he conveyed it well with the tracks he was playin'...there was no way you could front on 'em! I thinks this is my second fave set of his (the first was at Q's Veterans Night)...to think I nearly slept thru it!
Then it was time for Xris SMack! to get on but by this time the room was pretty much done. I really felt bad for him but I was too spent and sweaty to do much. I give him props for startin' his set with "Beers, Steers, and Queers" (a song I've been dyin' to hear since Evs and The Ghost intro'd it into my life so I danced to that) and even then it was a near scare there. You could hear slight stutters in the song like he was gonna have another episode like the month before, when his Apple locked up and left the floor dead and music-less for like five minutes. After restin' up a bit I chilled in the VIG Room with John and Stalag for a few minutes to change my shirt before makin' my way to the subways, stoppin' long enough to get in one last dance on the main floor to Sisters Of Mercy's "Lucreita My Reflection" (that song gets better and better every time!).
Good, good fun, people! Big ups to The Guilders for havin' me as their guest once again. It's times like these I truly appreciate what you guys and gals do every weekend in the face of everything and I will continue to support y'all for as long as I can.
Anyways, til next month (if not sooner)...Vynil, out!
