I was all set to dip into another Lady J Birf'day Bash when I got a call from Brooklyn to handle some personal stuff (nothin' major, just that my presence was necessary). I didn't think I'd make it back to Harrison on time so I opted out goin' altogether. So what's a fella to do on a rainy Saturday night in New York? Where else, in my case?

Bein' that I was much closer than I usually am in Jersey I was crazy early. I literally walked in on a 5witch set, who was playin' one of my fave classics, "Swamp Thing" (how perfect for the present weather). After passin' off daps to The C'ant and Swabby I took to the floor and enjoyed the song in solitude. A few cuts in had me feinin' for some more of the classic songs and since it was early I stepped up to the upper level and delved into the DJ's set upstairs (his moniker I know not), sharin' real estate with The Pyramidic One and her friend/mans, a few Whoo! Grrls (you know, the ones that be goin' "whooo!" all the time) and The Skull Worshipper (this time with 2 skulls, complete with wigs!). I made a request but it was takin' too long to hear it so back downstairs for AG.

By this time Stalag was on so I got back on the BlackReds for his set. As usual, a lot of interesting songs...I don't think they will ever get appreciated by many and I find it kinda sad in a way. The guy has so much history goin' on but folks don't seem to "get" him...only a select few. Still, I enjoy it so it's enough for me.

Then The C'ant is on next. By now I'm used to his style so I know what to expect: songs I'm unaware of but with enough backbone in' em to make me wanna dance. And he didn't disappoint. They were just great motivators that I felt compelled to stay on thru his whole set...just a fun listen for me overall. A few folks came down at this point but they were more resigned to play the sidelines for the most point, which was fine by me. The more BlackRed real estate the better. Only when they did come on I had to watch my step 'cause one cat (who had circle tats on his head...he seemed to be friends with The Pyramidic One's clique) seemed to need room to do his thing and I let him have it. I just hung near the DJ area with Zadra whenever she got up to dance.

Then it was Swabby's turn, and I realized that this would be the first time I ever heard him spun a set, ever. I always seemed to miss him when he's on on he never played when I did show up. So instead of gettin' off the floor I decided to stay on and "feel" thru his set, see how he got down. Not bad...not bad at all. It was a slight variety of songs...a couple of classics, a couple of SureFires, a few Unknowns. Once I get the hang of what he does (as I did with Stalag) it'll be a walk in the park (or a sway on the dance floor). While I was doin' my thing I noticed that The Pyramidic One's group were all on the sidelines. lookin' at me doin' my thing. I didn't know what to make of it so what the hell...give 'em a show. And just as I was about to do just that...

The 5witch gets on, and I knew I was in for a treat. He broke out the SureFires somethin' awful and Zadra and I took to the BlackReds greedily (I think she was more starvin' for these songs than I was!) We tore thru "Headcase" and other faves like we were on "Dancing With The Stars" and I couldn't help but look over to the side...the folks were in awe of us. It was also by this time that the floor had suddenly filled up with bodies (later Jai would even wonder where they came from, since when he started his set there was only 5 of us out there, tops). By the end of his set I was thoroughly drenched and signs of muscle fatigue was settin' in (cramps) but I was satisfied...I danced thru four whole sets non-stop! Go, me!

Stalag was back on and he came out a little harder, feedin' off the vibe that Jai set up. It would not go unappreciated by a cat who does understand him, Spaz, who took to the floor and just put on a show with his peoples that pretty much had me grinnin' from ear to ear. He dropped a couple of SureFires that got me back on the floor a couple of times (you can't sit down on "Aetherkrieg") before succumbin' to the pain altogether. I sat down for the remainder of the evening until it was Joe's turn again, where I took my leave. I dapped everyone in the VIG Room, got my goods and headed out into the drizzle for parts west (as in West 42nd).

Now that wasn't so bad, was it? Big ups to all the Guilders for lettin' me breeze thru once again. Lots of fun for me, that was! Great to finally hear a Swabby set...lookin' forward to more down the line!

God and gove'ment willin' see you all next month! Same Guild time, same Guild station!

Vynil, out!
