Two and change years ago I was invited to go to a venue that was created by a few Quixotees called Asylum Guild. Last night would be one of the last two nights before it was called a wrap. I made sure to focus on two things: whatever the DJs tossed out and the number 190 (my weight, which I wanted to cut down with the quickness).

I gets into the city very early to enjoy the sights for a bit before headin' thru those familiar Pyramid doors. I headed straight for the main floor, pulled in by the sounds of Heaven 17's "Let Me Go". A few cuts later I made my way to the lower levels to soak up the room and wash myself in the memories...the various resident and guest DJs and songs, the folks I've met and of course the dancin'. I decided to just sit and stare at the unoccupied BlackReds under one lone red light (I think that was one of the coolest things to ever witness at that particular moment).

Once I paid my respects I got on for my last time on an at-first subtle 5witch set. Then out of nowhere he dropped the SureFires...hard. I was literally caught off guard but 8 measures in I was back on point. I was joined by the likes of DJ Rivet Kitten, Olivia Op and Gaelic John and a couple of newbies. It still was a light crowd which didn't bother me in the slightest. He even played My Killing Song, which amped me up to no end.

Next up was The C'ant, who followed Jai set for a hot minute and then delved into his own brand of insanity. As always, they were songs I didn't know but had enough kick in 'em to keep me motivated. I gave him a good 45 minutes of my time before takin' a quick 15 for Rivet's set. Her set was a hybrid of Jai's and Joe's...some songs I knew, others I didn't...all kept the white Tims scuffin' on the real estate. Just a lot of fun. I took another fifteen before lookin' for Jai to get back on...so imagine my surprise to see Cub rollin' thru! "Don't you even read the flyers?" he laughed. I didn't know what to expect from him since I'm so used to his Crypt set as well as the ones he drop on Transmission nights. He got on and went hard...I was literally goin' "Oh s-!" I didn't know he dropped Dust sets, too!

Soon it was back to the rotation and the music was just great...not much of a crowd at this point but that only lasted a while (it's usually at this time around 3am). I was about to go when Joe asked me to hang on for "the second song". I'm thinkin' the one after the one Rachael played, which was "Aetherkreig" (which produced an awesome Circle)...I miscounted 'cause it was the one after that...Wild Cherry's "Play That Funky Music"! Oh to the dayam! Don't asked me how I missed this but there was actually a crowd of folks out there singin' the damn song! LOL! Then Jai dropped an awesome speech dedicated to his moms...very well felt by those present...and he played "Where Are You Now", a song he played before in her honor. No one who was on the floor left it while it played. After a couple of songs I had to quit..my legs were crampin' up somethin' fierce and I was about to sweat up my dry shirt (the one I put on when I'm about to leave). I said my goodbyes and thanked everyone who was responsible for last night's event and made my way to the subway.

28 runs, logged...and I had a blast on just about all of them. Thanx to Sol, Jai, Joe, Mike, Advct, Will and all the various DJs for the music and good times. Much love to all the folks I've met during those runs, those who supported these guys more than I could. Thanx to The Pyramid for givin' these guys a chance to shine...and lettin' them...for the past two years. The NY runs may be over but the Guild lives on, for now it's gonna be a monthly thing at Home Away...how effin' cool is that??

Lookin' forward to August!
